On our trip through South Dakota, we stopped in Custer State park and decided to do the hike to see Little Devils Tower. We had read on other blogs that this trail had amazing views. We also heard it was a slightly difficult hike. We thought we could make the hike easier by doing the Cathedral Spires trail and then hooking back onto the Little Devils Tower Spur. It turns out the hard part was after that, but nevertheless we persisted and are happy we did. It was breathtaking in more ways than one.

We started off great on the Cathedral Spires trail. It was not too hard and we got to see these incredible rock formations.
There were great views along the route to the top of the mountain on the Little Devils Tower Trail Spur.
Things took a turn when we started seeing arrows just spray painted on rocks and we knew we were in for a doozy of a day. This may not be legit rock climbing, but it was the rockiest climbing we have done.
This view from the top made the whole thing worth it though. Also, surprisingly, the cell signal is great up here and we were able to Facetime our people so they could see it too.
This is the Little Devils Tower view from the top. As the name suggests, it is a smaller version of the Devils Tower.
We really felt like we were literally and metaphorically on top of the world after this hike. It was the hardest hike we have done to date, but it was well worth it.
