Tourists in Our Hometown

Years ago, during our final summer before graduating college and having to work for a living (ugh right?), we decided to make a list of 100 things to do. It featured a wide range of activities from opening a recipe book and cooking whatever was on page 30 to burying a time capsule to lugging a piece of furniture around three counties to take photos. (It was really quite a fun time.) But what does that have to do with travel you ask? Well… another item on that list happens to be the subject of today’s post: be a tourist in your home town.

So what does that entail? For us, it meant getting out and enjoying some of our favorite spots around town and snapping photos like any good tourist would do.

We both grew up in Dawsonville, Georgia. What was once a small, country town has slowly, but surely, become a part of metro Atlanta. Nowadays, we have a mall, movie theater, several hotels, and more than enough stores and restaurants to satisfy most visitors. But it wasn’t always like that. Things have changed so much even in our lifetime. When we were kids, you could probably count the number of stores and restaurants in town on two hands. Anyone remember Revco?

From NASCAR to nature to nudists, Dawsonville has stories to tell. If you’d like to learn more about our not-so-small-anymore town, read on!
